Status check, 2026-11: The original 1820 brick tower was dark from 1905 to 1998, then restored and relit in 1998. The 1905 steel tower that replaced it was moved to South Fox Island, Michigan. Height figures disagree widely: 65, 70, 80 and 90 ft are all given. Sapelo Island Light is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is not reachable by road: the nearest road is about 6 miles away, so it is seen from shore or reached by water. It stands at 31.3920° N, 81.2852° W.
