Georgetown Light

Lighthouse · Georgetown County, South Carolina

Georgetown Light is a lighthouse in Georgetown County, South Carolina. South Carolina has 21 lighthouses on record at Wayfarrow.

The tower stands about 87 feet tall (6th tallest of 10 measured in South Carolina); its light sits 85 feet above the water; the light characteristic is recorded as Fl(2) W 15s (a group of 2 white flashes every 15 seconds), with a range of about 15 nautical miles.

Status check, 2026-11: The 1801 wooden tower was destroyed in 1806. The brick tower that replaced it is dated 1811 or 1812 depending on the source, and it was rebuilt and raised to 87 ft in 1867 after Civil War damage. Because of that, the record's 1801 date doesn't describe the current tower. Georgetown Light is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is not reachable by road: the nearest road is about 1 mile away, so it is seen from shore or reached by water. It stands at 33.2226° N, 79.1851° W.
